Our Deacons/Deaconesses

The role of the Deacon's Board at Greater Eleazer Baptist Church is to observe the spiritual and temporal welfare of the church, serve as arm-bearers to the pastor and assist him with carrying out the church's mission and vision. The deacons at Greater Eleazer also lead devotion, assist with baptism, funerals, serve communion and visit and commune the sick and confined. Moreover, the pastor and deacons work in close proximity to plan, coordinate and implement any and all recommendations at Greater Eleazer Baptist Church.

1 Timothy 3:8-13

8 In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.

9 They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.

10 They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons.

11 In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

12 A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well.

13 Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Our Deaconess

Purpose - Committed and supportive to the Greater Eleazer ministries. Assist in preparing candidates for baptism. Follow-up after baptism and assist with new members. Assist the Deacons with Communion. Visit the sick and shut-in. Evangelize within outreach ministries. Serve when and where needed.

Phoebe

The Bible identifies Phoebe as a deacon, or deaconess, a woman who served the church in Cenchreae. The term comes from the Greek word diakonos, meaning "servant" or "minister," and Paul commends her as a helper of many and entrusts her with delivering his letter to the Romans. Phoebe's role: Paul refers to Phoebe as a "servant of the church in Cenchreae" and a "benefactor of many".
